The Waconia Lakettes opened the competitive dance season last weekend with a competition at Apple Valley. Placing sixth of seven teams in jazz and 11th of 12 teams in high kick, head coach Amy Segner said the first competition of the year is about more than the final scores and standings.
“The Lakettes focused on getting the dancers out on the dance floor and getting the jitters and little mistakes out,” she said. “Not the best placements but again scores to start to start with and only go up from here.”
Segner said this first weekend has the coaches analyzing their approach to the year.
“Getting the first set of scores makes the entire coaching staff and the seniors take a look at the different directions we take in practices, routines and everything else that has to do with the future of the 2013-2014 season!”
The Lakettes are at New London-Spicer tonight and Hutchinson on Saturday, with the plan to continue to improve scores and performances. Waconia will also compete at Holy Angels on Dec. 21, before breaking for the winter holidays.
