William Salden

William Bill Salden, age 55, of Cologne, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at his residence.
Memorial Mass Of Christian Burial held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 at St. Bernards Catholic Church (210 Church Street East) in Cologne with Fr. Gregory Abbott as celebrant. Visitation held 4 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the Johnson Funeral Home (141 First Street East) in Waconia and also Saturday one hour prior to the mass at the church.
William Bill Henry Salden was born on Dec. 9, 1958 in Shakopee, the son of Joseph H. and Joan F. (Nierengarten) Salden. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Bernards Catholic Church in Cologne. Bill was united in marriage with Dawn Fruetel on April 26, 1980 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Young America by Rev. Henry Fry. This union was blessed with daughters Rachel, Heather and Megan.
Bill studied automotive repair at Hennepin Tech in Eden Prairie after graduating from the Central High School. He had worked as a mechanic for 26 years at Waconia Ford before starting his own business Bills Repair in Cologne where he specialized in classic automotive restoration. Bills drive to become a Master Mechanic began as a young boy when he developed a love for cars. He was a member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association and many other car clubs.
Bill was a loving husband and father. He cherished the time spent with his three grandchildren. A person who had a nickname for everyone, Bill will be remembered as a great friend to all.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Joan Salden; sisters Carolyn Salden and Mary Mielke; brother-in-law Dennis Mielke.
Bill is survived by his loving family: loving wife of 33 years Dawn Salden of Cologne; daughters and sons-in-law Rachel and Derek Thompson of Carver, Heather and Dave Kurtz of Chanhassen, Megan and Patrick Thompson of Belle Plaine; grandchildren Lakely Rae Thompson, Hazel Rose Thompson, Baylor William Thompson; sisters and brothers-in-law Rose and Larry Schabel of Carlisle, Iowa, Kathy and Mike Bergmann of Walker, Michele and Clarence Hudinski of Chaska; father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Donna Fruetel of Norwood Young America; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Vicki and Pat Kelser of Bongards, Chris and Paul Vos of Henderson, Steven Fruetel and partner Gary of Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Serving as urn bearers Joe Niesen, Jim Michel, Dean Christopher, Sid Sanocki, Roger Kleman and Don Artmann.
