Toastmasters Club

2ND AND 4TH MONDAYS – Want to get over your fear of public speaking? Want to improve your public speaking and leadership skills in a friendly and supportive environment? TUESDAYS – Lakeside Networkers is a local BNI business networking group that meets weekly on Tuesdays at 7 a.m. at Island View Golf Club in Waconia to share referrals and grow businesses. All are welcome to attend.

Senior Center

TUESDAYS – The Waconia Senior Center is open on Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m. in the Veterans of Foreign Wars building. Come and socialize.

Lighthouse pie-coffee

1ST THURSDAY – Enjoy coffee, hot chocolate and pie at Lighthouse of Waconia (500 S. Cherry St.) from 3-4 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month. Info: 442-1261.

Legion, VFW events

Waconia American Legion holds a sheephead tournament at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and a Texas hold ‘em tournament at 7 and 9 p.m. on Fridays. Waconia VFW holds meat raffle Fridays at 7 p.m., bingo at 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

WIC voucher pick-up

The CAP Agency WIC voucher pick-up dates for all residents of Carver County are the first and third Monday and Wednesday of each month. Rotary Gourmet Dinner

Reserve your space for the annual Waconia-West Carver Rotary Gourmet Wine Dinner (to be held Jan. 18) by contacting a Rotary member. Silent and Live Auction items, a raffle, recognition of a community member for community Service Above Self Award and, of course, a mouth-watering menu of gourmet delights with wine pairings.

Community Band

Join the Waconia Area Community Band, which practices from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. at Waconia High School on Wednesday evenings. Nick VanDuzee is excited to conduct music so that members are inspired to play and their experience is both musically and personally worthwhile. Info: (952) 686-1440.

Rainbow Preschool

Looking for a preschool experience for your child? Rainbow Preschool is starting a new Tuesday and Thursday afternoon class starting January 2014. It’s staffed with licensed teachers and experienced and qualified assistant teachers and is a ISD #110 Community Education program that takes place in Waconia. ISD #110 ECFE classes

District 110 Early Childhood Family Education offers weekly classes for parents and children ages infants to 5 years.  Age appropriate learning activities are provided for children to gain skills in all areas of development. Parents participate in group discussions facilitated by a licensed parent educator. All classes are located at the ECFE Center, 520 Industrial Blvd, Waconia. A sliding fee schedule is provided, based on family income. THURSDAY, DEC. 19 – The National Alliance on Mental Illness support group will meet at 7 p.m. at the Waconia Moravian Church (209 2nd St.).

Omelette breakfast

SUNDAY, DEC. 22 – An omelette breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Waconia American Legion Post 150 (233 Olive St.). Choose your favorite ingredients for omelette; includes toast, hash browns and beverage.

Public Health Shot Clinic

MONDAY, DEC. 23 – Carver County Public Health (600 E 4th St., Chaska) provides immunizations, or shots, to residents who don’t have health insurance or whose insurance does not cover shots, from 3 to 5 p.m. Shots for adults and children available. SATURDAY, DEC. 28 – The Waconia VFW will hold a steak fry at the clubhouse in Waconia, 125 First St. W., from 5 to 8 p.m. Steak or chicken, baked and cheesy potatoes, cole slaws, dessert.

Basketball clinic

TUESDAY, DEC. 31 – The Minnesota Timberwolves & Lynx Basketball Academy is coming to Waconia High School to host a holiday basketball clinic from 9 a.m. to noon. Open to boys and girls ages 7-14. Crafting Extravaganza
