It was a 3-0 week for the Holy Family/Waconia girls’ hockey team as the Wildfire picked up two conference wins over Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato and Hutchinson, and capped the week with their second victory of the season over Holy Angels/Richfield.
Topping L/D-C 7-0 on Dec. 10, the Wildfire controlled the puck most of the game, hammering the L/D-C goal with 39 shots, while the Dragons got just nine shots at sophomore Lexi Hartmann in the Wildfire goal.
First period goals came from Abby Hanscom (unassisted) and Megan Menzuber, off assists from Meghan Burmeister and Sarah Rosland.
Menzuber completed her hat trick in the second period with two goals, sandwiched around another Wildfire goal from Ashlyn Rakos. Rosland (2), Shania Gonzales (2), and Brooke Riddle were credited with the assists.
The third period was, again, all Wildfire as Rakos scored her second goal of the game, assisted by Chloe McEnelly, and Makayla Williams netted the Wildfire’s seventh at 13:50 on an assist from Rosland. A 7-2 victory over Hutchinson marked the Wildfire’s second conference win of the week on Dec. 12, thanks to 46 shots on goal for the Wildfire over Hutchinson’s 14.
Hutchinson took a 1-0 lead early in the first period, before Hanscom and senior Brityn Ryshavy put the Wildfire ahead with two goals. Gonzales and Molly Garin were credited with assists on Ryshavy’s goal.
Sixteen seconds into the second period, Menzuber found the back of the net, unassisted. Hutchinson made it a 3-2 game later in the period before Rosland and Menzuber put the Wildfire back up by two with goals. Hanscom had the assist on Rosland’s goal. Menzuber’s, scored on a power play, was assisted by Rosland and Hanscom.
The Wildfire locked down the game in the first five minutes of the third period, with a goal from Hanscom (assisted by Menzuber) and another from Riddle (assisted by Grace Blood).
Holy Family/Waconia picked up its third win of the week by defeating Holy Angels/Richfield 3-1 on Dec. 14, the second time this season the Wildfire have taken down the Stars.
Now 7-3 overall, the Wildfire are leading the Wright County Conference at 3-0. The Wildfire are slated to play Dryden on Dec. 30 in the Schwan Cup in Blaine. They will start the new year at Orono on Jan. 3.
