WMHS gymnasts defeat GSL

The Watertown-Mayer gymnastics team defeated Glencoe-Silver Lake on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 137.6 to 99.1.

The Royals were led by an outstanding performance from Tina Scanlon, who won three events and the all-around. Scanlon finished with an all-around score of 35.125.

Megan McCain also took second in the all-around for the Royals with a score of 34.2. Katie Heilman was third with a score of 33.875. The Royals didn’t have any other gymnasts compete in all four events at that meet.

Scanlon’s wins came on the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise. She scored a 9.25 on vault, 9.0 on floor and 8.65 on bars.

The Royals had the top five spots on all four events. On vault, Scanlon was first, Heilman was second at 9.175 and Alisa Gilbert was third at 8.85. Taylor Hix was fourth at 8.6 and McCain was fifth at 8.35.

On bars, Scanlon was first, McCain was second at 8.125, Caitlin Kammerer was third at 7.50, Heilman was fourth at 7.225 and Ella May was fifth at 7.10.

On balance beam, McCain and Brooke Leaf tied for the top spot at 8.9. Heilman was third at 8.8, Scanlon was fourth at 8.225 and Kammerer was fifth at 7.8.

On floor, Scanlon was first, Gilbert was second at 8.9, McCain was third at 8.825, Heilman was fourth at 8.675 and Leaf was fifth at 8.625.

The Royals now have off until Saturday, Jan. 4, when they will host their first meet of the season. The Royals will play host to eight other teams in a home invitational.
