The Waconia girls’ basketball team dominated Waseca on Dec. 28, winning an uncontested 99-59 game. The Wildcats controlled the game from start to finish, jumping out to an early 25-2 lead.
Steals, rebounds, and fast break points added up quickly for WHS, and by halftime, Waconia held a commanding 63-26 lead.
The Wildcats eased back in the second half, outscoring the Bluejays 36-33 to cruise to an easy 99-59 win.
Eleven different Wildcats made it on to the scoreboard, led by junior Anna Schmitt with 25 points, sophomore Madelin Dammann (21), and senior Miranda Schultz (11).
Senior Kaylee Vanderhoff snagged nine rebounds to lead Waconia on defense, while junior Kelsey Eder and sophomore Emily Anderson each had six.
During halftime of the game, the Wildcats celebrated their 40-for-40 team, the 40 players chosen to represent the four decades of girls’ basketball at WHS.
The 2013-14 Wildcats will return to action this Saturday, Jan. 4 at Mankato West. They will be on the road for most of January, before finally returning to host Orono Jan. 21.
