The Watertown-Mayer/Waconia/Delano swimming and diving team finished in 14th place in the Bronze Division of the Maroon and Gold Invite at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on Saturday, Jan. 4.
The Royals scored 139 points as a team. The championship went to Simley, which scored 329.5 points, to edge out Forest Lake, which scored 321.5.
Four WMWD performers combined to earn six top-15 finishes for the Royals, including two apiece for Zach Holman and Jack Dalluge and a second-place finish in diving for Tristan Gens, who scored 203.45 points.
Holman finished in fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in with a time of 56.12 seconds. He also finished 10th in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.27.
Dalluge’s best finish was seventh in the 200-yard Individual Medley, where he finished with a time of 2:14.47. He was also eighth in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:21.46. In that same event, Ben DeSutter also finished in 14th place for the Royals in a time of 5:26.25.
The Royals’ best relay on the day was the 200-yard freestyle relay. Holman, Jake Weber, Dalluge and DeSutter teamed up to finish eighth in 1:36.90.
The Royals also competed Tuesday, Jan. 7, weather permitting, at Buffalo, and will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 9, at Dassel-Cokato at 6 p.m. The Royals will finally host their first meet of the season when they host an invitational on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 12:30 p.m. The Royals will also compete Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Princeton.
