Katelyn Cooper

Katelyn Cooper, an eighth grader at Trinity Lutheran School in Waconia, won the school-level competition of the 27th National Geographic Bee on Jan. 9 and has a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship.
Second place went to eighth grader, Josh Marlatt, and third place was awarded to seventh grader, Madison Denzer.
All Minnesota first place school winners, including Cooper, will now take a written test. The top scorers will be eligible to compete at the State Bee.
The National Geographic Society will provide an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for state champions and teacher-escorts to participate in the National Geographic Bee National Championship in May.
The first-place national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship and a lifetime membership in the Society.
