Freshwater Waconia to hold grand opening on Jan. 19

Freshwater Waconia is celebrating its Grand Opening on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 10 a.m. with a service and a party.
Freshwater Church began in 1999 as a daughter of Parkside Church. It rented the St. Boni Community Center every Sunday for the two and a half years, setting it up and tearing down for church every week. It was soon full to capacity so they rented a warehouse behind St. Boni motor sports which they also outgrew.
In 2003, Freshwater purchased its St. Bonifacius campus and added multiple services to meet the community’s needs. They intended to quickly move out of the facility but could not find a suitable piece of property forcing them to completely remodel in 2007 to maximize the space. They continued to add services to accommodate the growing congregation and began looking to add a second campus in 2012.
When Duebers decided to close and sell their building in May 2013, Freshwater purchased it and completely renovated the former retail space into a state-of-the-art church, student ministry center, and community gathering location.
“Freshwater is one church with multiple locations,” said Pastor John Braland. “Both campuses offer live kids programming, live bands, and a full coffee bar, but the teaching at the Waconia campus is delivered via video. When it’s time for the message a large center screen drops and it’s delivered via video technology.”
Around 200 to 300 people from Freshwater St. Boni now call Freshwater Waconia home. Freshwater says that it has plans to add additional campuses in the future but at this time, church officials are not prepared to share where.
