Just one game last week for the Holy Family/Waconia girls’ hockey team resulted in a 3-1 loss to Achiever Academy on Jan. 9, marking the third time this season the Wildfire have fallen to the Aces.
Achiever Academy took an early 2-0 lead before the Wildfire would get on the scoreboard in the second period. Senior Shania Gonzales scored the team’s lone goal at 5:50 in the second period on an assist from sophomore Megan Menzuber.
The Aces would put one more goal in during the third period for the 3-1 victory.
The Aces totaled 43 shots on goal to the Wildfire’s 23, and also capitalized on one of their two power plays. The Wildfire did not score on any of their four power plays.
Sophomore Lexi Hartmann was business-as-usual in the Wildfire net, saving 40 of 43 shots for a .930 save percentage.
The Wildfire are on the road this weekend at Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on Friday and in Kasson to take on Dodge County Saturday afternoon. Next week, the Wildfire will travel to Hutchinson on Jan. 23 before hosting section competition Chaska/Chanhassen at both teams’ home rink in Victoria on Jan. 25.
