Winter weather didn’t deter attendance at the annual banquet held by the NYA Area Chamber of Commerce last Thursday, Jan. 16.
In fact, cancellations of other events increased attendance for the banquet by four people to 40, according to Executive Director Jen Storms.
The first-time raffle was also a pleasant surprise for organizers.
“The raffle went really well,” she said. “We did great and were able to cover all expenses and take care of the scholarship program.”
Scholarships will be awarded in May and raffle winners will be posted on Facebook and the Chamber website, according to Storms.
The banquet gave members a chance to enjoy entertainment by comedian Jarred Mauck and catered food by Mid-Town Restaurant.
“It seemed like everybody that was there said he (Mauck) was good,” she said. “It was a nice relaxing evening. I’ve had a lot of positive feedback.”
The event also allowed attendees to reflect on a successful 2013 for the NYA Chamber, which participated in some familiar events as well as National Night Out and Relay For Life.
The NYA Chamber also added six new members and has a full board for the first time in two years.
“2013 went really well, we were able to gain some membership,” said Storms. “We’re still trying to build our membership.”
Plans are already being made for participation in 2014 events, including Music in the Park in June, Taste of NYA in July, TourDeTonka and National Night Out in August and Relay for Life.
“We’re also looking at adding partnership with the wrestling polar plunge,” said Storms, adding they are discussing taking part in a winter or spring event, such as a fishing contest.
Chamber members are also seeking additional membership with the Olde Mill Antique and Gift Shoppe, KwikTrip, Waconia Manufacturing and other business developments. The chamber will next meet in April for their quarterly meeting.
