The Watertown-Mayer/Waconia/Delano boys’ swimming and diving team finished in fourth place Saturday at the Buffalo Border Battle and lost to St. Louis Park, 86-79, last Tuesday, Jan. 21.
In the Buffalo meet, Fargo North came in first with 663 points, edging out second-place Shakopee by a single point. Buffalo was third with 599 points and WMWD was fourth with 375 points.
The Royals won two events at the Buffalo meet. Jack Dalluge won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.31 and Zach Holman won the 100-yard butterfly in 56.12 seconds. Dalluge was also fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.32) and Holman was third in the 200-yard IM (2:08.14).
Tristan Gens added a second-place finish in diving for the Royals, posting a personal-best 361.25 points, and Ben DeSutter had two finishes in the top six. He was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.76 and sixth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:30.53.
Jake Weber and Austin Gilbert also had two top-10 finishes apiece. Weber’s time of 24.84 seconds was good for fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, and he was ninth in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.71 seconds. Gilbert was ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.81 and 10th in the 200 IM in 2:26.89.
Allan Janikula was ninth in the 100 IM in 2:25.88 and John Kenison was ninth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:54.91. Brent Unowsky was 10th in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:08.38, and Adam Bartell was 10th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:54.99.
Earlier in the week, in the home dual against St. Louis Park. the Royals won two events. Holman won the 200-yard IM in 2:11.36 and DeSutter won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.56 seconds. Holman was also second in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.63 seconds and DeSutter was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.72.
Dalluge finished second in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.90) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:27.45). Weber was second in the 50-yard freestyle (29.96) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (57.05).
Gilbert added a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.70) and Unowsky was third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.60).
WMWD will have their parents night on Thursday, Jan. 30, when they host Orono at 6 p.m. Diving will take place at Orono at 4:30 p.m.
