SunPatriot group earns MNA awards

The SunPatriot Newspaper group received a total of 12 awards in the Minnesota Newspaper Association’s 2012-13 Better Newspaper Contest. An award ceremony was held during the MNA’s convention held at the Double Tree Hilton in Bloomington on Jan. 23-24. SunPatriot’s awards were as follows.

Carver County News (weeklies up to 1,500)
• 1st Place: General Reporting; Government/Public Affairs Reporting, “Bridge project still not a done deal” by Matt Bunke
• 2nd Place: Use of Photography as a Whole; Local Breaking News Coverage, “Convicted Watertown Township Killer Back in Jail on Gun Charges” by Matt Bunke; Sports Photo, “Drop Something?” by Matt Bunke; Government/Public Affairs Reporting, “Demise of the Library?” by Matt Bunke
• 3rd Place: Typography & Design; Feature Photo, “Granny rides a speeding toilet” by Matt Bunke; Photo Story, “Rails to Trails Festival 2013” by Matt Bunke
Mound Laker (weeklies over 5,000)
• 2nd Place: Feature Photo, “Spirit of the Lakes ends with a bang” by Theresa Malloy

Norwood Young America Times (weeklies 1,501 to 2,500)
• 2nd Place: Human Interest Story, “Students create anti-bullying video” by Adam Gruenewald

Waconia Patriot (weeklies 2,501 to 5,000)
• 1st Place: Business Story, “Dueber’s Bids Farewell” by Todd Moen
