Early Childhood screen.

FEB. 20-21 – Early Childhood Screening is offered by District 110 staff that checks a child’s overall development and health. Recommended screening age: 3 1/2 to 4 years. Screening takes place from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on Feb. 20 and 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the Early Childhood Family Center, 520 Industrial Blvd. Info: 442-0613.

NAMI meeting

THURSDAY, FEB. 20 – The support group for the National Alliance on  Mental Health will meet at 7 p.m. at the Waconia Moravian Church (209 2nd St. E).

VFW Steak Fry

SATURDAY, FEB. 22 – The Waconia VFW will hold a steak fry at the clubhouse in Waconia, 125 First St. W., from 5 to 8 p.m. Steak or chicken, baked and cheesy potatoes, cole slaws, dessert.

Winterblast 2014

SATURDAY, FEB. 22 – The community is welcome to attend Winterblast 2014 – BBQ & Bingo at St. Joe’s in Waconia from 5 to 10 p.m. Cash raffle, bingo, prizes, food and more. Major fundraiser for parish. Food catered by Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. Tickets available at the door.

Waconia FCA

SUNDAY, FEB. 23 – Waconia Fellowship of Christian Athletes will gather from 2 to 4 p.m. at Crown College for games, food and an encouraging  message.

Alligator Gumbo

SUNDAY, FEB. 23 – The Waconia Moravian Church (209 East 2nd Street) will host its 19th annual Alligator Gumbo from 5 to 7 p.m. Fundraiser features spicy gumbo made from scratch with real alligator meat. Homemade chicken noodle soup will also be served along with homemade pies and bars for dessert. All welcome. Procceds will be used to help send youth to church camps.

Public Health Shot Clinic

MONDAY, FEB. 24 – Carver County Public Health (600 E 4th St., Chaska) provides immunizations, or shots, to residents who don’t have health insurance or whose insurance does not cover shots, from 3 to 5 p.m. Shots for adults and children available. Fee is requested for each shot, but no one will be denied service if unable to pay. Information or appointment: (952) 361-1329.

Gardening classes

FEB. 24-25 – The Carver/Scott Master Gardeners will be teaching a class on growing herbs on Feb. 24 and a class on pruning on Feb. 25 at the Waconia Library at 6:30 p.m. No registration / fee is required to attend.

Waconia men’s softball

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 26 – An informational meeting will be held at the Waconia Ice Arena at 7 p.m. for teams and/or team managers who are interested in participating in this year’s Waconia Parks & Recreation Men’s 12 Week Doubleheader Softball League. Registration for league play: Feb. 27 to April 4. Anticipated league start date will be on Wednesday, May 7 at Brook Peterson Park. Registration, rules packets available at www.waconia.org. Get Your Child to Listen

THURSDAY, FEB. 27 – Parents, daycare providers and school staff are invited to a presentation by Toni Schutta entitled “Getting Your Child to Listen” from  6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Bayview Multi-Purpose Room. RCTC ‘Little Women’

St. Boniface breakfast

SUNDAY, MARCH 2 – A Pancake, Waffle and Sausage Breakfast will be held in the St. Boniface school gym in St. Bonifacius from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Includes bake sale and a quilt raffle. Co-sponsored by the St. Boniface Council of Catholic Women and the Fr. Wohlfohrt Council #12029 St. Boniface Knights of Columbus.

MARCH 3-4 – The Carver/Scott Master Gardeners will be teaching a class on gardening in the shade on March 3 and a class on designing-redesigning your landscape on March 4 at the Waconia Library at 6:30 p.m. No registration / fee is required to attend.

Princess, hero party

TUESDAY, MARCH 4 – ISD #110 ECFE is hosting a Princess and Super Hero Party for families with young children to help celebrate Jillian Taylor’s 5th birthday on March 6. At the time Taylor was diagnosed with leukemia in spring 2013, she was enrolled in ECFE Preschool and has since had numerous chemo therapy treatments. The event is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Southview gym. Princess Nicole from www.PrincessPartyPals.com will share stories and songs, plus a variety of party games are being planned. Steak fry dinner

SATURDAY, MARCH 8 – A steak fry dinner will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at American Legion Post 150 (233 Olive Street, Waconia). Includes baked potato, cole slaw, bread, beverage.

LHS Pork Chop Dinner

SUNDAY, MARCH 9 – A Pork Chop Dinner will be held at Mayer Lutheran High School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Grilled by Carver County Pork Producers. Proceeds beneft scholarships, Orphan Grain Train and Lutheran Hour Ministries. Tickets available at the door.

MARCH 10-11 – The Carver/Scott Master Gardeners will be teaching a class on better garden, less work on March 10 and a class on composting on March 11 at the Waconia Library at 6:30 p.m. No registration / fee is required to attend.

Suicide support group

TUESDAY, MARCH 11 – The Suicide Bereavement Support Group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Waconia Moravian Church (209 E 2nd St.). Open to anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide.

Cards for Soldiers

SATURDAY, MARCH 22 – Give back to the men and women who are serving the country by attending the Cards for Soldiers event at Cologne Academy. Sponsored by the Cologne Lions, it begins at 9 a.m. and ends when everyone is finished.
The goal is to make 1,500 handmade greeting cards for Scrapping for Soldiers (www.scrappingforsoldiers.com). Cards can be sent to local members of the military serving overseas. Lunch provided by Cologne Leos. Info: Judy at 466-2690.

MARCH 24-25 – The Carver/Scott Master Gardeners will teach a class on pests and invasive species on March 24 and one on tree & shrub selection on March 25 at the Waconia Library at 6:30 p.m.

WHA Ice Out Event

FRIDAY, MARCH 28 – The public is invited to attend the Waconia Hockey Association’s annual fundraiser event from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Waconia Ice Arena. Event includes 80s music, game show entertainment, beer and wine tasting, appetizers and raffle drawings. 80s attire is not required, but prizes awarded for the best dressed. All proceeds to benefit the WHA and WHA Arena Fund. Tickets available at the door or by email: iceout@waconiahockey.org.
