Waconia community band welcomes new members
To the editor:
After a few years off, I rejoined the Waconia Area Community Band (WACB) this past fall. I didn’t realize how much I missed playing music until I started attending practice each week. The moment when the individual instruments become one and that melodious sound comes to life is a lovely sound.
The WACB has been in existence for around 10 years, and after going through a few years of low activity, is now resurging with an abundance of energy and new music.
Hence, the band is seeking new members to compliment this already extraordinary group of talent. The beauty of this band is that it is comprised of adults who have a unique mixture of experience — some haven’t picked up their instruments for 20 years and some play in various chamber, jazz or orchestral groups throughout Twin Cities.
Our director, Nick VanDuzee, former high school band teacher, is “instrumental” in bringing us all together with a diverse selection of music that both challenges us and allows the long gone musicians to re-acclimate into a band setting nicely.
The WACB is a great opportunity for adults who play instruments to continue playing music. New members are always welcome to join conductor Nick and the ever-growing ensemble. So dust off your brass, woodwinds or percussion, and join us. No auditions are needed. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. in the Waconia High School band room. WHS is located at 1400 Community Drive in Waconia.
