CCHS planning upcoming events

A3-CCHSlogoBWThe Carver County Historical Society (CCHS) is planning a number of upcoming events, including a Ukrainian Egg Painting activity on April 12 and several day camps that will be held this summer.

Ukrainian Egg Painting
Easter is coming soon, it is time to get artistic and create some colorful eggs to share and enjoy! Parents, learn the fine art of Ukrainian Egg Painting with your children 10 and up. You will receive a kit to keep including dyes, a kitska, and wax. Younger children will enjoy the opportunity to do an Easter Egg hunt and simple egg decorating. Pre-registration and payment required by March 28 in order to provide supplies for all attending.
The event will be held at the CCHS from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 12. The cost is $15 for ages 10 and up or $5 per child. To register, contact (952) 442-4234.

CCHS History Day Camps

• Childhood Favorites
Childhood Favorites will explore the world of children’s books. Each day, staff will read a chosen book, and that days activities and adventures will relate to the book or theme.
As a tie-in to the Storyland exhibit, this camp will help your young ones explore and improve their literacy skills. Come and explore the world of Curious George and science experiments, Camilla Cream and her lima beans, and so much more! We will make a special library visit on Wednesday. This camp is offered to those going into grades K-2. Space is limited to 12 kids.
The camp will be held at the CCHS from noon to 4 p.m. daily from June 23-27. The cost is $20 for members or $30 for non-members.
• Mystery Mayhem
Come explore the world of mystery and adventure in literature with Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library. Through reading, discussion, games and activities, keep your child’s interest in literacy alive! Each camper will be provided with a copy of Escape (to be picked up prior to camp). A library visit and activity will occur Wednesday. This camp will be offered to those going into grades 3-5. Space is limited to 12 kids.
The camp will be held at the CCHS from noon to 4 p.m. daily from July 7-11. The cost is $20 for members or $30 for non-members.
• Genres Galore!
Genres Galore! will allow campers to explore literary genres they might not otherwise try. Many youth love anime, comics, or sci-fi fiction about vampires and mysteries. How many youth read poetry? Biographies? Non-fiction? Books of letters or diaries? Graphic novels? Foreign books? Plays?
Youth will participate in discussions on the selected books (having done the reading!) and tie-in their learning with related activities. Poem writing, illustrating graphic novels, journal writing, and more! Keep your youth interested in books and learning over the long summer through this fun and exciting camp! Make sure to plan ahead to reserve or purchase books for your kids. This camp will be offered to those going into grades 6-8.
Space is limited to 12 kids. The camp will be held at the CCHS from noon to 4 p.m. daily from July 21-25. The cost is $20 for members or $30 for non-members.
About the Carver County Historical Society
Established in 1940, the Carver County Historical Society is a private, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to collect, preserve and interpret the history of Carver County. The museum houses five local history galleries, a veterans’ exhibit and a local history and genealogy library. There is no charge to visit the museum or library.
