Head Coach: Dan Benham

Ass’t coach: Pat Hayes

Conference: Wright County

Section: Class AAA, Section 2

2013 finish: Like many other spring sports, the Wildcat girls’ golf team battled the weather last season, making the beginning of the season messy. The ‘Cats won an invitational at Dassel-Cokato and won the front nine at Baker National Golf. Waconia also had multiple second and third place finishes. In fact, the Wildcats finished in the top three at every meet except one. Meagan Rachey qualified for the state meet and finished 26th in Class AAA.

Girls' GolfKey returners: Back this year for WHS is junior Meagan Rachey, a state participant and four-time WCC Champion. Also back are senior Brittany Johnson and freshman Lauren McNulty, who both received All-Conference Honorable Mention honors in 2013.

Teams to beat: Holy Family and Hutchinson both return strong squads this season and will be formidable opponents in the Wildcats’ pursuit of a Wright County Conference title. Benham said the Wildcats are also in the strongest section in the state.

“New Prague, Edina, Eden Prairie, (and) Prior Lake are some of the toughest teams just to name a few,” he said.

Goals: With the experience of the returning players and the fresh eyes of newcomers that will fill out the varsity roster, Benham is setting high expectations for the Wildcats.

“Hoping for a conference championship, we are returning some quality players and I like the youth of our team,” he said. “As always, we want to have a good showing in sections and move onto state in the early summer.”

First meet: The Wildcats are scheduled to kick off the season on April 10 in Becker, weather permitting. Their annual home meet is slated for Monday, April 21.
