Wrestling/BB salt sale

The Waconia wrestling and baseball teams have kicked off their annual spring water softener salt sale. Residents who live in ISD #110 can order salt and have it delivered to their homes on Saturday, April 26. Three types of softener salt are available: coarse, pellet and iron. Women of Waconia

THURSDAY, APRIL 3 – Women of Waconia (formerly known as Waconia Area Women of Today) is a group of volunteer women that come together for community service and socializing among its members. Members can choose what service projects are of interest to them and new ideas are encouraged. If you would like more information about this group, attend their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at Freshwater Community Church Waconia Campus or email women_of_waconia@yahoo.com.

Early Childhood screen.

APRIL 3-4 – Early Childhood Screening is offered by District 110 staff that checks a child’s overall development and health. Recommended screening age is between the ages of 3 1/2 and 4 years. Screening will take place from 2:30 to 5 p.m. on April 3 and 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on April 4 at the Early Childhood Family Center, 520 Industrial Blvd. Info: 442-0613.

WHS spring play

APRIL 3-4 – Waconia High School presents William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew: A One Act” at 7 p.m. both nights. Tickets available at the door.

Thrift Shoppe open

APRIL 3-5 – Trending Upward Thrift Shoppe will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all three days at Promise Church, 141 Depot Drive, in Waconia. Shopping will benefit Dollars for Scholars and Convoy of Hope.  Info: (952) 261-2343.

FRIDAY, APRIL 4 – An all-you-can-eat fish fry will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Joe’s in Waconia. Advance tickets available; tickets also available at the door. Takeout available. Sponsored by Waconia Knights of Columbus. Upcoming fish fry: April 11.

Zion, Cologne fish fry

FRIDAY, APRIL 4 – Zion Lutheran Church, Cologne (14735 County Road 153) will hold its annual fish fry from 4 to 8 p.m. Tickets available at the door. Info: (952) 466-3379.

LHS production

APRIL 4-6 – The Mayer Lutheran High School Drama Department will perform “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” a dramatization of the book by C. S. Lewis, at 7 p.m. April 4-5 and at 2 p.m. and April 6 at the Mayer Lutheran Fine Arts Center. General Admission tickets available at the door.

Dairy Day Dinner

SATURDAY, APRIL 5 – The 62nd annual Carver County Dairy Day Dinner and Princess Coronation will be held under the theme “Join our Team in 2014!” at the Cologne Community Center. Pet adoption event

Book signing, reading

SATURDAY, APRIL 5 – Gary C. Newton, a professor of Child and Family Ministries at Crown College in St. Bonifacius, recently published a book for children entitled “The Adventures of Spunky and Dunky and Buddy Bear: Rescued at Last.” He will hold a book signing and story reading at Mocha Monkey in downtown Waconia. Newton will read the story to any interested children and families at 4, 4:30, 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m. by the fireplace.

Mayer FD fish fry

SUNDAY, APRIL 6 – The Mayer Fire Department will hold its annual spring fish fry at the Mayer Community Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Zion LWML will sell pie for dessert. Tickets available at the door.

Waconia FCA

SUNDAY, APRIL 6 – Waconia Fellowship of Christian Athletes will gather from 2 to 4 p.m. at Waconia High School for games, food and an encouraging  message.

Faith Renewal event

APRIL 6-10 – A Faith Renewal/Parish Mission will be held at the Catholic parishes of St. Boniface and St. Mary of Czestochowa from April 6-10. The theme, God’s Wondrous Love, will be presented by Fr. Lon Konold, OMI. Suicide support group

TUESDAY, APRIL 8 – The Suicide Bereavement Support Group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Waconia Moravian Church (209 E 2nd St.). Open to anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide.

TUESDAY, APRIL 8 – The Waconia American Legion members will meet at 7:30 p.m. Next meeting: May 13.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 9 – Young At Heart (Y@H) Club members and their guests will gather at 11:15 a.m. at the Safari Island parking lot for car pooling to The Old Log Theatre to enjoy lunch and a production of “Steel Magnolias.” NOTE: Registration deadline is Tuesday, March 25. Show Choir Spectacular

APRIL 10-12 – The Power Company Family of show choirs presents the 2014 Show Choir Spectacular, featuring Power Company, The Current, Illuminations, Shockwave and The Pulse as they present their award winning competition sets and highlight the amazing talent of these fantastic performers.
