Bands set for annual Stiftungsfest celebration

Plans are already underway and bands and some events have been set for the 153rd annual Stiftungsfest celebration in NYA.
Organizers are encourage people to save the date for this year’s festivities, which will be Aug. 22 to 24.
Typically the last full weekend in August, Stiftungsfest will be held one week earlier this year because of Labor Day. Many people travel and it is hard to find volunteer help during the holiday weekend.
Members of the Stiftungsfest committee have booked most of the music entertainment including Arch Allies, Johnny Holm Band and Squeezebox with Molly B.
Entertainment begins Friday evening with “Back to the 1980’s.” Arch Allies, an 80’s rock band, will kick things off under the big tent. Arch Allies were voted Minnesota’s best tribute band and plays songs from Styx, Journey and REO Speedwagon.
Kevin Lange and the Mississippi Drifters, who have played Saturday evenings in the past, will perform in the in the pavilion. Also, local singer Sara Hilgers will share her talents in the beer garden. Other plans for Friday evening include an old timers baseball game and reduced prices on beverages.
Returning Saturday and Sunday under the big tent is Squeezebox from Ridgeville, Ohio, featuring Ted Lange and Molly B from the Molly B Polka Party. Ted and Molly played to a full tent last year and organizers are happy to have them back again this year.
Squeezebox will also perform at the church service on Sunday morning.
Other polka bands playing under the big tent include Gary’s Ridgeland Band from Sparta, Wis. Dale Dahmen and the Polka Beats, Alpenstein featuring the very talent James Strehlke and The Jolly Huntsmen from Lakeville.
Johnny Holm’s Band will highlight Saturday evening.
Johnny is the leader and front man of the band, which is back again this year. The Bingo’s will be performing in the beer garden.
Sunday is always a big day at Stiftungsfest, starting with the church service, local Lions breakfast, Central High School band performances and the crowning of Miss Stiftungsfest.
Following is a full day of entertainment under the big tent and Heritage tent and fireworks will close the celebration on Sunday evening.
Stiftungsfest organizers are certainly excited for the full weekend of great music, food and one of the best softball tournaments in the state and remind everyone to save the date for Aug. 22 to 24.
