Youth dance camp

Scandia Lodge event

TUESDAY, APRIL 15 – Betsey Norgard will speak about “The Tall Ships of Aland that Sailed the World” at the monthly Scandia Lodge meeting. Aland is an archipelago of islands between Finland and Sweden. Norgard is a second generation “Alander” and descendent of sea captains and lighthouse keepers. Aland’s square rigged ships sailed the world and were among the fastest. Pubic welcome to attend. CCLCCA training

TUESDAY, APRIL 15 – CCLCCA will hold training from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Waconia American Legion. All licensed providers may attend this two hour training. Presenter: Lori Hameister, “Emergency & Disaster Planning for Family Childcare.” Central Fire Protection will be available at 6:30 p.m. to service fire extinguishers. ‘Forks Over Knives’

THURSDAY, APRIL 17 – Caim Center (141 W. First Street, #1) in Waconia hosts Third Thursday Movie Nights to present films that will inspire meaningful healthy living. On April 17, the documentary “Forks Over Knives” will be shown at 7 p.m. with discussion to follow. Movie examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the so-called “diseases of affluence” that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods. Norwood fish fry

FRIDAY, APRIL 18 – Norwood Baseball will host a fish fry from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Wilkommen Memorial Park Pavilion in NYA. All-you-can-eat fish, au gratin potatoes, beans, fixings and drinks. Drive through takeouts available.

Local book signing

Caregiver Support Group

MONDAY, APRIL 21 – Carver County’s Encore Adult Day Services Program and Augustana Emerald Crest Assisted Living  provide a monthly Caregiver Support Group to address the issues of caring for the aging. Great opportunity to meet, talk with other caregivers and local senior professionals to gain insight, resources and support. Waconia Relay event

TUESDAY, APRIL 22 – All past and present team captains and Relay for Life participants are invited to attend the 2014 Waconia Relay for Life Fundraising Blitz Open House, which offers participants the chance to experience a mini Relay, with lots of fundraising ideas, and the ability to register for the event, if you haven’t already done so. Trinity Open Houses

APRIL 22 & 24 – Trinity Lutheran School in Waconia will be hosting Open Houses on April 22, for parents and students in preschool-4th grade, and April 24, for parents and students in grades 5-8, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Visit the campus, preview the curriculum, meet the teachers, and experience Trinity’s award winning Christian education. FRIDAY, APRIL 25 – Relay for Life of Waconia is hosting a Wine & Canvas fundraising event at Island View Golf Club in Waconia. Talented artists will instruct participants step-by-step through recreating a featured painting.  At the end of the event, participants will take home a work of art created by their own hands. Starts at 6:30 p.m. All participants must be 16 or older. Lions Gala Dinner

FRIDAY, APRIL 25 – Area Lions clubs, including St. Boni and Victoria, present the Magic Gala Dinner Event from 6 to 10 p.m. at BayView Event Center in Excelsior. Goal: raise $23,000 to send 15 children with diabetes to Camp Needlepoint to magically transform isolated children into normal kids for a couple of weeks each year. The magic of this work helps change a child’s life by teaching them how to survive this manageable disease while still being able to be a child. Tickets: lionscrappiecontest.org.

Lions Crappie Contest

SATURDAY, APRIL 26 –  Area Lions clubs, including St. Boni and Victoria, present the 2014 Lions Crappie Contest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at BayView Event Center in Excelsior. SATURDAY, APRIL 26 – The Cologne Fire Department Relief Association will host their annual steak fry at the fire station from 3 to 8 p.m. The meal includes 10 ounce steak with fixings and there is also a hot dog and chips meal.

Service of Remembrance

SATURDAY, APRIL 26 – A Service of Remembrance for those who have lost a loved one to suicide will be held at 7 p.m. at Waconia Moravian Church. This community worship service will be a time to remember your loved one who has been lost to suicide. Bring pictures or mementos that are meaningful to you. All faith backgrounds are welcome.
