Waconia citizens support fire department

More than 1,050 people attended the Waconia Fire Department Relief Association’s Spring 2014 Pancake Sausage and French Toast Breakfast held at the Fire Station on Sunday, April 13.
According to Fire Chief Mark Morse, there were 891 adults, 119 children and 46 Waconia Fire Department retirees for a total of 1,056 in attendance. Morse noted the generous support put forward by the community, Mayor Jim Nash, Council Member Lynn Ayers and City Administrator Susan Arntz toward the event.
He also thanked the 30 Volunteer paid on call Waconia Firefighters and their spouses/significant others who dedicate their time so selflessly to our community.
Morse expressed his appreciation to:
• Committee chairperson Robert Schmitz and the Breakfast committee.
• The Christensen Group for their generous donation of $2,500 for supplies for the event.
• The city of Waconia and Safari Island for their support with ticket sales.
• Mackenthun’s for allowing ticket sales at their store on two different dates.
• Citrus Systems for donation of juice for the event.
• Waconia UFC for propane.
• Waconia Roll off for a dumpster.
• Belle Plaine Fire Explorers (Brandon)
“Funds raised at this event and others, as well as some proceeds from the Relief Association Charitable gambling organization are utilized to offset the tax burden to the community through the purchase of items to enhance emergency response and provide funding for items not supported through the budgeting process that enhance operations, operating efficiency, firefighter development and overall safety,” Morse said.
Items these efforts have supported in the past:
• Firefighting turnout gear and boots
• Firefighting tools for fire Apparatus
• Professional training courses for firefighter professional development
• Training props, supplies and equipment
• Fire prevention and education materials
• Personal water craft and trailer for enhanced rescue operations on area lakes
• ATV and Trailer for off road/Lake(in winter) emergencies and fires
• Uniforms for the firefighters
• Technology enhancements: Personal computers, iPads, smart board and projector, etc.
• Office Furniture, chairs, tables etc.
• Fund annual firefighter events that provide recognition to past members and promote recognition, camaraderie and family involvement to current members and their families. This includes the Annual Fire Department Banquet and summer picnic.
