Last year, the city was awarded $4.5 million dollars in grant funds from MnDOT and DEED for an improvement project on Highway 5 from Highway 284 west to Oak Avenue. The finished project will create two lanes of travel in each direction, curb and medians, a new signal at Cherry Street, a pedestrian underpass at Oak Avenue, and trail enhancements along the corridor.
In 2014, MnDOT will perform a mill and overlay to the Highway 5 road surface west of Waconia from Oak Avenue to Highway 25. In addition, MnDOT will reconstruct Highway 5 to the east, from Scandia Road to Victoria in 2015. This project will replace the road surface and widen the shoulders and involves road closure.
In 2015, the county will reconstruct County Road 10 West starting at County Road 32 at the northwest corner of the city to Hwy 7. This project will result in a new roadway surface as well as widened shoulders and dedicated turn lanes and involves road closure.
Citizens are invited to come learn about the projects in the area from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 1 at Waconia City Hall, 201 S Vine Street, in the Maple Conference Room. This is an open house format with no formal presentation; please drop in as your schedule allows.
