Wildcat golfers open season at home

The Waconia girls’ golf team opened the 2014 season at home, hosting the Wright County Conference – East division teams at Island View Golf Course on April 21.

With 447 total strokes, the Wildcats finished sixth of six teams, behind team champion Holy Family (382), Hutchinson (396), Orono (402), Delano (428), and Mound-Westonka (444).

“Overall not the start we wanted to the season,” WHS head coach Dan Benham said. “But I was impressed on how we competed and the fact we had quite a few ladies playing in their first meet.”

Freshman Lauren McNulty was the ‘Cats only competitor to shoot below 100, finishing sixth as an individual with 99 strokes.

Senior Brittany Johnson and sophomore Madison Schochenmaier finished close together in 25th and 26th, with 112 and 113 strokes respectively. Freshman Anna Osterberg golfed a 123 to finish 30th.

Junior Kennedy Peitz and sophomore Megan Bingham tied in 34th place with 134 strokes each.

The Wildcats are at Burl Oaks (Mound-Westonka), weather permitting, this afternoon and will be in Hutchinson and Orono next week on May 5 and May 8.
