The Waconia Lions were recently given the opportunity to help support a local non-profit organization called Backyard Wishes, which is a recently formed organization run 100 percent by volunteers whose main objective is to enhance the lives of District 110 public school students and their families.

Backyard Wishes achieves this by helping to pay for those things that go beyond life’s necessities so that all students within the District 110 public school system to thrive and grow.

“Waconia Lions Club members could easily see the parallels between our organization and Backyard Wishes,” said Lions Vice President Joe Gifford. “In simple terms, both organizations serve our community. From a Waconia Lions Club perspective, our goal has always been to help large problems seem smaller and help our community become better. The mission of Backyard Wishes is more focused on supporting District 110 public school students but its objectives are the same. In reflecting on this, the Lions unanimously approved an immediate $1,000 donation to Backyard Wishes. In addition, the Waconia Lions also decided to investigate a longer term partnership with Backyard Wishes starting next September.”

Backyard Wishes will be hosting a series of fundraising dinner concerts at the historic Carver County Barn.  The events are is limited to 100 guests and the $50 per person admission price includes a buffet dinner, non-alcoholic beverages, music, and a bonfire. The first event was held May 2 and featured the “Tim Houlihan Band.”    The next event is currently planned for October with details to be determined.
