Authorities recover teen’s body from Eagle Lake

Authorities recovered the body of Davis Paul Colley, 16, of Norwood Young America from the water of Eagle Lake, which is located adjacent to Baylor Regional Park just north of Norwood Young America, just after 11 p.m. on Friday, May 9.

According to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:30 p.m. of a male swimming in Eagle Lake near the Baylor Park fishing pier in Camden Township. The caller reported the male went underwater and did not resurface. The relatively shallow lake is 10 feet in depth or less for the majority of its surface area.

A search was conducted by the Carver County Sheriff’s Dive Team. Norwood Young America Fire and Rescue, along with fire departments from Hamburg, Waconia and Watertown assisted in the rescue efforts. Divers searched the area(s) where witnesses reported seeing the male, recovering the victim’s body at approximately 11:06 p.m. The victim’s body was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for examination. The victim did not have signs of injury. The medical examiner, as part of the standard examination, will provide toxicology reports in the coming weeks.

Law enforcement continue to investigate the reason why he may have been in water that was below 50 degrees in temperature just hours before the Fishing Opener. Preliminary information suggests the victim was not engaged in recreational swimming.
