Royals softball is coming off a tough week where quality opponents continued to squeak out close games.
On Friday’s doubleheader against Le Sueur-Henderson, WMHS couldn’t get their bats going – in either of the games. After dropping to LSH in game one 5-1, the Royals stayed competitive throughout game two.
Tied at zero, the Royals conceded two runs in the fifth, and that’s all LSH needed for a 2-0 victory, their second in as many games.
LSH’s pitching was strong, giving up just one-run in both games.
During the Jackson County Central Tournament on Saturday, the Royals showed resilience and gutted out a 5-4 victory over St. Peter.
But the Royals built up momentum wouldn’t sustain. The next game WMHS faced a tough Mankato Loyola team and was blanked 10-0. The struggles continued for the Royals, as they stayed competitive against Blue Earth Area in the third game of the tournament, only to fall 6-2.
The WMHS girls have played great games all year and have had exceptional pitching – especially in their wins. But offensively, the Royals have been inconsistent and need to find a steady presence at the plate in order to be a mainstay in the win column.
