In preparation for this week’s three meets, the Waconia boys’ golf team had a slower week, playing just one meet on May 5.
Hosting the six teams of the Wright County – East at Island View Golf Course, the Wildcats finished fourth with 322 strokes.
Orono took home the team title with 310 strokes, followed by Delano at 314 and Holy Family at 316.
Senior Michael Vigil was the ‘Cats top finished of the day, finishing with 78 strokes.
“A very nice round coming off a hand injury,” WHS head coach Don Skerik said.
Seventh grader Connor Glynn was second for WHS, with a “sizzling” 81 strokes. Freshman Connor Jensen matched Glynn, also turning in 81 strokes. The rest of the Wildcats were close behind, with junior Kendell Banyai at 82, senior Blaine Wilsey at 83, and junior Cal Rassman at 86 strokes.
Skerik said the Wildcats continue to improve as the season progresses, but said the team still needs to work on consistency and smart play.
“Hopefully, we can play well this week and make up some ground in the Wright County,” Skerik said.
The Wildcats will make up a missed WCC meet tonight at Burl Oaks in Mound. Next week is another three-meet week with invitationals in Dassel-Cokato and Brainerd.
