Donald Mueller, 86

Donald Mueller, 86

Donald Mueller, 86, of Hamburg, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Donald Arnold Mueller was born on Sept. 11, 1927, in Renville County. He was the son of Arnold and Hilma (Wolter) Mueller. Donald was baptized as an infant on Oct. 2, 1927 by Rev. C. H. Kowalske and was confirmed on April 6, 1941 by Rev. Otto Vriesen, both at St. Paul Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg. He attended school in Hamburg through the eighth grade and then went on to work for various area farmers as a hired hand in addition to helping his father in some of his stone mason work. Donald also drove various trucks for different local companies. Donald entered the United States Army twice, serving his county on both U.S. coasts. His German fluency was helpful during one of his primary duties as he oversaw German POWs that were located state-side.
On Nov. 5, 1955, Donald was united in marriage to Arlene Koester by Rev. A. H. Fellwock at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. This marriage was blessed with three children. Starting in 1963, the couple rented the family farm outside Hamburg for a few years before buying it in 1969. He faithfully worked and farmed there for 35 years, until the farm was sold in 1999. Donald and Arlene then moved into Hamburg where he lived for nearly 10 years. In his retirement, he drove bus for Central Schools in Norwood Young America. Most recently, Donald was living at the Lighthouse Care Center in Waconia.
Donald was a self-sufficient, hard-working man who enjoyed the rustic lifestyle his farming career afforded him. He was always doing or fixing something, thick in a stick-to-it attitude. He was a strong-willed German through and through. Donald loved to visit with people; he always had a story to tell. In his later years, he would sit in his garage and watch people go by, always welcoming a conversation with a passing friend. Donald truly loved his lifes work and his family.

Blessed be his memory.
