Central golf squad wrapped up its season at the Section 5AA tournament at Pebble Creek Country Club in Becker on May 29 and June 2.
Kayla Engelstad was the lone golfer to advance to the second day of the tournament for Central as she shot a 97 to qualify on the first day.
On day two she shot a 106.
Head coach Rick Willhite said it was a major improvement from when she finished with a 115.
“A soggy course from torrential rains made scoring difficult,” said Willhite. “Kayla played through some bad luck and some bad breaks to finished 2nd in her foursome. This is the second straight year that Kayla has made the section finals. This experience will really help her going forward. Her positive attitude and her steady demeanor make her successful and fun to work with.”
Overall Engelstad contributed to the girls’ team score of 444, while Breck (340), Providence Academy (352), Hutchinson (369) and Holy Family (370) all advanced to the second day.
In addition to Engelstad, Mariah Lueck just missed qualifying with a 102, Nicole Johnson shot a 116 and Sommer Scott carded a 129.
For the boys the team recorded a 386 on the first day with Providence Academy (303), Dassel-Cokato (312), Holy Family (313) and Delano (315) all advancing.
Individually, Chase Heuer shot a 92, Bryce Noeldner shot a 94, Calvin Weckwerth carded a 98 and Justin Fabel and Cole Sauter both shot 102s. Also, Brandon Fabel had a 107.
The meets marked the end of the high school careers for graduating seniors Blake Teubert, Brandon Fabel, Bryce Noeldner, Cole Sauter, Mariah Lueck and Nicole Johnson.
