Senior Rob Ryan and junior Andrew Wolf were the lone Crusader qualifiers to the second round after the first day of the Section 4AA boys’ golf tournament on May 29.
Held at River Oaks Golf Course in Cottage Grove, the Mayer Lutheran boys’ golf team finished the first day in eighth place overall with 337 strokes. Ryan turned in a score of 78 strokes, followed by Wolf at 81 to advance to the second day of competition.
On the second day, neither Ryan nor Wolf was able to defeat the five Totino-Grace and St. Paul Academy players that claimed the five individual state entries behind team champion Blake.
Four other Crusaders competed on Day 1 of sections, including senior Joe Zittergruen who finished at 86 strokes. Not far behind were seniors Chad Anenson and Brandon Wroge at 92 and 94 strokes, respectively. Freshman Dylan Fisher rounded out the LHS roster, turning in an even 100.
