Senior Center

 

TUESDAYS – The Waconia Senior Center is open on Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m. in the Veterans of Foreign Wars building. Come and socialize.

 

Legion, VFW events

 

Waconia American Legion sheephead tournament: 7 p.m. on Thursdays; Texas hold ‘em tournament at 7 and 9 p.m. on Fridays. Waconia VFW holds meat raffle Fridays at 7 p.m., bingo at 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

 

Community Band

 

Join the Waconia Area Community Band, which practices from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. at Waconia High School on Wednesday evenings. Info: (952) 686-1440.

 

Fall MOPS Groups

 

Are you a mother of young children (infant-kindergarten)? Trinity Lutheran Church, Waconia is holding registration for Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS)! Daytime group meets the first and third Tuesday of the month from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. and evening group meets the third Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Both groups begin meeting Sept. 16. Women of Waconia

Trinity, Waconia VBS

 

Online registration has begun for Trinity’s Vacation Bible School, Weird Animals, held July 21-25 from 9 a.m. to noon. Kids will enjoy activities like untamed games, eat snacks at the Critter Cafe, and hear Bible stories. Garden Help Desk

 

The Carver/Scott Extension Master Gardeners are staffing a garden help desk at the Waconia Library on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the summer. Bring questions and samples.

FRIDAY, JUNE 13 – Waconia Parks & Recreation presents Movie in the Park at 8:30 p.m. at City Square Park. Movie: Wreck It Ralph (PG). Kids fishing event

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 13 – Waconia Parks & Recreation and the Minnesota DNR will hold the FiN (Fishing in the Neighborhood) event from 10 a.m. to noon at  Cedar Point Park (130 N Cedar Street). Fishing poles, equipment provided. Participants 16 & under do not need to have a fishing license to participate. Adults are required to follow MN DNR laws and have a fishing license. St. John festival, dinner

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 13 – St. John Assumption (26523 200th St., rural Belle Plaine) will host its annual festival and pork chop dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. with a social from 6 to 9 p.m. Music by Gerald Feltmann, children’s games, country store, silent auction and a raffle.

 

Fill the Hill

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 13 – The Cologne Lions will sponsor Fill the Hill at Robert G. Fritz Memorial Field. Former Hollander Larry Wirtz will be honored and throwing out the first pitch. Hans and Holly the Hollanders will be there. Fun, prizes. Events will begin at about 7:10 p.m. and the first pitch will be at 7:30 p.m.

SATURDAY, JUNE 14 – A steak fry dinner will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at American Legion Post 150 (233 Olive Street, Waconia). Includes baked potato, cole slaw, bread, beverage.

 

Airplanes rides

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 14 – Glencoe’s EAA Chapter 92 is sponsoring airplane rides for youth ages 8-17 as part of the EAA’s Young Eagles program. Rides take place at the Glencoe Municipal airport from 8:30 am to 12:30 p.m. Rain date: June 21, same time. Sign up, registration begins at 8 a.m. Kids need to be accompanied by parent/guardian. SUNDAY, JUNE 15 – The annual Father’s Day Pork Chop Dinner will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at New Germany City Hall. Sponsor: New Germany Baseball.

 

Caregiver Support Group

 

MONDAY, JUNE 16 – Carver County’s Encore Adult Day Services Program and Augustana Emerald Crest Assisted Living  provide a monthly Caregiver Support Group to address the issues of caring for the aging. Great opportunity to meet with other caregivers to gain insight, resources and support. Group meets from 5 to 6 p.m. at Encore Adult Day Services (609 1st St. West, by the museum in Waconia). THURSDAY, JUNE 19 – An Open House will be held at the home of Brian and Lori Stangret, 345 William Lake Shore Drive, Waconia, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and listen to Brain Laidlaw and Ashely Hanson a folk/American act called The Family Trade Duo. Fundraiser for the Moravian Costa Rican Mission Trip.

 

Auditions for Oliver!

 

JUNE 19-21 – Centre Stage Theater in NYA presents Oliver! and organizers are looking for boys and girls (ages 8-13), teens and adults who enjoy acting, singing and dancing as well as musicians, stage crew, costumers and hair and make up people. St. Boniface sale

Lake Waconia Band Festival

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 21 – The 16th annual Lake Waconia Band Festival will be held in Waconia. The first of 18 visiting bands will begin performing at 6 p.m. at City Square Park. Parade route: Main Street from Orange to Walnut Street and then down Walnut from Main to W 3rd Street ending at the fairgrounds. Performance areas: City Square Park, between Vine and Maple streets (judging area), and near Bayview Elementary. Open to the public. Reserved bleacher seating available.

 

Plant, bake, craft sale
