Head on over to Lion’s Field and Brook Peterson Park this weekend for some top-notch youth baseball.
The Waconia Baseball Association is hosting two major baseball tournaments this weekend, including the 10A/12A Metro state qualifying tournament.
Over 20 teams will converge on Lion’s Field and Brook Peterson Park June 13-15, for three days of competition, camaraderie, and baseball.
The 2014 Waconia Junior Legion Invite begins Friday and features two Waconia teams, along with New Prague, Wayzata, Bloomingtons Jefferson and Kennedy, Eagan Blue, and Shoreview.
The Metro Baseball Tournament, will run concurrently with the junior legion invite and is drawing 15 teams, including two from Waconia, as well are Shakopee, Buffalo, Watertown-Mayer, St. Louis Park, Chanhassen, Osseo/Maple Grove, Westonka, Farmington Orange, Bloomington, Minnetonka Big Willow, and Red Wing.
Waconia’s junior legion teams begin play Friday afternoon, with Waconia No. 2 taking on Bloomington Blue at 3 p.m. and Waconia No. 1 facing Bloomington Gold at 8 p.m.
Teams in the 10A/12A Metro tournament are playing for entries into the MBT State Tournament in July. The top two 10A teams and the single top 12A team will advance.
The two Waconia 10A teams begin pool play Friday evening at Brook Peterson Park at 5 p.m. Waconia 9 will take on Buffalo on Field No. 1, while Waconia 10 will play Watertown-Mayer on Field 6. Bracket play begins Saturday.
In the 12A bracket, the Waconia team will also enter pool play Friday, first facing Westonka at 4:30 p.m. at Bayview Field No. 1. Brackets also begin Saturday.
Proceeds from the Metro tournament will go to improvements of the Brook Peterson Fields. T-shirts will be available for purchase on site, as will full concessions at Brook Peterson, Lion’s Field, and Bayview.
