The Minnesota River Conference recently announced its 2014 Academic All-Conference team for the 2013-14 school year. For the team, a student-athlete must be a senior in good academic standing, involved in an MRC-sponsored activity, have earned a minimum of four varsity letters in grades 9-12, hold a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average, and have no MSHSL violations during his or her high school career.
Nine Mayer Lutheran athletes were named to the team, including:
Samantha Bartz has earned six varsity letters combined in volleyball and track and holds a 3.916 GPA. She is the daughter of Scott and Rachel Bartz of Belle Plaine.
Krianna Boelke is a four-time letter winner in softball. She holds a 3.604 GPA and is the daughter of Rodney and Ann Boelke of Cologne.
Joel Burfeind has tallied nine varsity letters in his high school career split between football, basketball, and baseball. He holds a 3.517 GPA and is the son of Craig and Laurie Burfeind of Chanhassen.
Between volleyball and basketball, Lauren Manteuffel has lettered four times and holds a 3.812 GPA. She is the daughter of Todd and Lois Manteuffel of Cologne.
Josie Peters holds a 3.618 GPA and has lettered seven times in basketball and softball. She is the daughter of Sean and Heidi Peters of Hamburg.
Rachel Schmidt has lettered four times in volleyball and holds a 3.875 GPA. She is the daughter of Jim Schmidt of Chaska and Karen Schmidt of Excelsior.
Lauren Schroeder has earned five varsity letters in volleyball and track. She holds a 3.951 GPA and is the daughter of Gregg and Lori Schroeder of Waconia.
A six-time letter winner in volleyball, basketball, and softball, Shelby Sicheneder and has a 3.923 GPA. She is the daughter of Randy and Julie Sicheneder of Watertown.
Joseph Zittergruen has earned five letters between basketball and golf and holds a 3.741 GPA. He is the son of David and Nancy Zittergruen of Chaska.
