Don’t be alarmed if you see a plethora of swimmers, bikers and runners in Waconia and the surrounding area on Sunday, June 29 — the Lake Waconia Triathlon is being held at Lake Waconia Regional Park.
After 24 years of operation by a dedicated group of Waconia residents, the triathlon is now under the new management of Final Stretch.
The Lake Waconia Triathlon will begin, end, and transition at Lake Waconia Regional Park. Swimmers will start in four waves beginning at 8:30 a.m. and in three-minute increments.
The race includes a 1/2-mile swim in Lake Waconia, a 20-mile bike ride that takes participants out to Mayer, along Highway 7, and back around the lake, and a 4-mile run that brings athletes through downtown Waconia and back to the park.
This annual event attracts roughly 500 participants from the area ranging from ages 15-80.
It takes hundreds of volunteers to make any large event possible, and the support of volunteers in the past has helped make the Lake Waconia Triathlon a premiere event in the community.
