Godfrey Widmer, 81

Godfrey H. Fritz Widmer, age 81, of Cologne, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernards Catholic Church (210 Church St. East), Cologne with Father Gregory Abbott as Celebrant of the Mass; visitation Friday 4 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home (141 East 1st St.), Waconia and at the church one hour prior to the Mass; interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Fritz was born on July 16, 1933 in St. Bonifacius, Minn., the son of John and Margaret (Fick) Widmer. Fritz was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius.
Fritz proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 in Korea and Japan.
On Aug. 24, 1957, Fritz was united in marriage to Jane C. Lindenfelser at St. Alberts Catholic Church in Albertville, Minn.
In 1958, together with his wife Jane, Fritz founded Widmer Inc., an excavation and underground utility company. They worked side by side in the business until its sale in 2004.
Fritz loved collecting anything exceptional, including cars, antique farming equipment, and some things that only he knew what they did. Fritz also loved a good card game.
Always active, Fritz was very generous with his time to the Mound Rotary, the Packard, Hudson, and other car clubs, Waconia Ridgeview Hospital, as well as Pioneer Power, Minnesota Utility Contractors Association, and several other community organizations.
Fritz was Janes best friend. He loved his family, a good joke, and lived a full life. He will be missed.
Fritz is preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret Widmer; brothers John, Sidney, Jerome, Norman, Harold, and Carl Widmer.
Fritz is survived by his loving family; wife Jane Widmer; children and spouses Russ and Pat Widmer of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Marise Widmer of St. Paul, Chrysa and Dana Olson of Shakopee, Robert and Rachel Widmer of Yukon, Okla., Paul Widmer and fiance;e Joni Peterson of Blaine, Michael Widmer and Andrea Ryan of Renton, Wash.; daughter-in-law Sharon Widmer of St. Bonifacius; grandchildren Tony and Jill Widmer, Mike and Debbie Widmer, Matthew Widmer, Joe and Lonnie Widmer, Jennifer and Jesse Swanson, Megan Olson, Michelle Olson, Micah Olson, Jonah Widmer, Elise Widmer, Claire Widmer, Kate Widmer, Erin Widmer; great-grandchildren Brittany, Jay, Madison, Jack, Justin, Tim, Brooke, Georgia, Guy, Austin; brother and sister-in-law Francis and Janet Widmer of Robbinsdale; sisters Elaine Wandschneider of St. Paul, Mary Klein of Waconia; sisters-in-law Joanna Widmer of Spring Park, Edith Widmer of St. Bonifacius, Shirley Steffens of St. Michael, Mildred Freeman of St. Michael, Marilyn Lindenfelser of Monticello, Marlene Lindenfelser of Albertville; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia in Fritzs name.
