The Carver/Scott Extension Master Gardeners are staffing a garden help desk at the Waconia Library on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the summer. Bring questions and samples.

Music in the Park

Glad Days – Cologne


JULY 24-26 – Cologne’s annual community festival, Glad Days, will be held July 24-26. Includes flower contests, Garden Party, Kids Fest, softball, kickball, bounce houses, games, fire truck rides, 5K and a kids run, bean bag tournament, and music. St. Bernard’s Sale


JULY 24-26 – St. Bernard’s Catholic United Financial is sponsoring a rummage sale in St. Bernard’s School, Cologne, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 24, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 25, and 8 a.m. to noon July 26 (bag day). If you have saleable items to donate, contact (952) 466-5567.


Outdoor Movie Night

River City Days


JULY 25-27 – Chaska River City Days is Chaska’s annual summer community celebration of life along the Minnesota River. It will be held July 25-27. To learn more, visit chaskarivercitydays.com.


River City Days 5K Run


SATURDAY, JULY 26 – All proceeds from the Chaska River City Days 5K run will be donated to Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women, a non-profit organization that has assisted over 17,000 victims of domestic abuse in Scott and Carver counties. VFW Steak Fry


SATURDAY, JULY 26 – The Waconia VFW will hold a steak fry at the clubhouse in Waconia, 125 First St. W., from 5 to 8 p.m. Steak or chicken, baked and cheesy potatoes, cole slaws, dessert.


WHS 1962 reunion


SATURDAY, JULY 26 – The Watertown High School Class of 1962 will hold its annual reunion at 2 p.m. (or whenever you get there) at B’s on the River in Watertown. Relay fundraiser


SUNDAY, JULY 27 – The Relay for Life team Bruce’s Lovefest will have a fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mack Shack in Waconia. All proceeds benefit Relay for Life. Team was formed to honor Bruce Remer, who lost a brutal battle to lung cancer.


St. John’s UCC VBS


JULY 27-31 – A summer VBS event called “Wilderness Escape: Where God Guides and Provides” will be hosted at St. John’s UCC July 27-31. Children will explore adventures, sing songs, play teamwork-building games, dig into Bible-times snacks, visit Moses, and more. Wilderness Escape will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each day. Public Health Shot Clinic


MONDAY, JULY 28 – Carver County Public Health (600 E 4th St., Chaska) provides immunizations to residents who don’t have health insurance or whose insurance does not cover shots, from 3 to 5 p.m. Shots for adults and children available. Fee requested. Information or appointment: (952) 361-1329.

First Friday Service


FRIDAY, AUG. 1 – The First Friday Recovery Service is held at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church (800 Waconia Parkway N) in Waconia. All welcome to attend this informal worship service designed for anyone looking for support or healing with an emphasis on recovery from addictions. Personal care givers and concerned persons of people struggling with addictions will also find this service meaningful. Good music, message; casual, comfortable. Upcoming service: Sept. 5. Suicide support group


TUESDAY, AUG. 12 – The Suicide Bereavement Support Group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Waconia Moravian Church (209 E 2nd St.). Open to anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide.

Relay For Life


FRIDAY, AUG. 15 – The 5th annual Relay For Life of Waconia will be held at the Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia. Theme: “Light Up the Night.” Open to the community. Gates open: 4 p.m. Opening Ceremony: 6:30 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony: dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m.). Zion Family Fun Day


SUNDAY, AUG. 17 – The community is invited to the 2nd annual Family Fun Day at Zion Lutheran Church, Cologne. Starts after 9 a.m. church service and includes games, races, giant waterslide (weather permitting), 500 tournament, and more. Hot dogs, beverages provided; bring a dish to pass.
