The Carver/Scott Extension Master Gardeners are staffing a garden help desk at the Waconia Library on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the summer. Bring questions and samples.

AUG. 6-10 – The Carver County Fair will be held for the 103rd time in 2014. The fair will be held Aug. 6-10 at the Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia. Info: www.carvercountyfair.com.

 

HS sports physicals

 

THURSDAY, AUG. 7 – Ridgeview is partnering with Twin Cities Orthopedics to offer high school sports physicals. This year’s Waconia event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at the TCO clinic located in the Ridgeview Professional Building (560 South Maple St., #200). CVFT ‘Laughing Stock’

MONDAY, AUG. 11 – The Waconia VFW Post 5462, Men’s Auxiliary, and Women’s Auxiliary will host their month meeting at 7:30 p.m. Next meeting: Sept. 8.

 

Public Health Shot Clinic

 

MONDAY, AUG. 11 – Carver County Public Health (600 E 4th St., Chaska) provides immunizations, or shots, to residents who don’t have health insurance or whose insurance does not cover shots, from 3 to 5 p.m. Shots for adults and children available. Joyful Noise camp

 

AUG. 11-14 – Joyful Noise, a four-day music camp for the whole family, offers an exciting week of music for children ages birth to 8 years and the adults that love them. Camp runs from 10 to 11 a.m. daily at Freshwater Church in Waconia. The morning consists of singing, dancing, playing instruments and a nut-free group snack. Suicide support group

 

TUESDAY, AUG. 12 – The Suicide Bereavement Support Group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Waconia Moravian Church (209 E 2nd St.). Open to anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 13 – St. Joseph Catholic United Council will hold a short meeting in the Parish Center starting at 7 p.m. to plan the Pancake & Sausage Breakfast scheduled for Sept. 13. All members are encouraged to attend. Beverages will be provided.

FRIDAY, AUG. 15 – The 5th annual Relay For Life of Waconia will be held at the Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia. Theme: “Light Up the Night.” Open to the community. Gates open: 4 p.m. Opening Ceremony: 6:30 p.m. Luminaria Ceremony: dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m.). SATURDAY, AUG. 16 – Friends of the Waconia Library will sponsor an Open House birthday party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate the library’s 10th year in its current location at 217 S Vine St. Event features author/speaker Pat Dennis; woodcarvers demo/exhibit; magician; origami demos/class; presentations on library’s history; violinist; drawings every 15 minutes with prizes donated by local merchants (do not need to be present to win); refreshments and more.

 

Zion Family Fun Day

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 17 – The community is invited to the 2nd annual Family Fun Day at Zion Lutheran Church, Cologne. Pork Chop Dinner

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 17 – The 28th annual Pork Chop Dinner will be held at St. John Lutheran Church of Hollywood. A contemporary worship service: 9:30 a.m. Serving time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu consists of two pork chops, scalloped potatoes, sauerkraut, corn, coleslaw, buns, mixed relishes, bars, coffee and milk. WEDNESDAY, AUG. 20 – The 61st annual Princess Kay of the Milky Way  Coronation will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. The Carver County Dairy Association is hosting a fan bus supporting 2014 Princess Kay finalists Jeni Haler and Christine Leonard, both of NYA and graduates of Waconia High School.
