Republican Mike McFadden was not kidding around Tuesday night with an overwhelming primary election victory in his GOP bid for U.S. Senate. He rolled over opponent Jim Abeler of Anoka County with 71 percent of the votes. Abeler was a distant second with 15 percent of the votes.

The victory squarely pits McFadden against DFL incumbent Al Franken in the November general election.

In other races, Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson captured the GOP slot for governor with 30 percent of the votes. Kurt Zellers, 24 percent, Marty Seifert, 21 percent, and Scott Honour, also with nearly 21 percent of the votes, will all now bow out of the race against incumbent DFL Gov. Mark Dayton.

Rebecca Otto also flexed her muscles in her race to keep her state auditor position. She finished with 81 percent of the DFL votes in that race. Challenger Matt Entenza finished with 19 percent.
