Nash wins GOP House 47A primary
Republican Jim Nash has won the GOP House District 47A race against Bob Frey. According to the unofficial results released by Carver County, Nash won the race with 1,406 votes (59.93 percent) to Frey’s 940 votes (40.07 percent).
“I’m thrilled,” Nash told the Waconia Patriot after the final results were announced late Tuesday night. “I’m going to work hard and I welcome Mr. Gieseke to the race. I look forward to a great campaign this fall.”
Matthew Gieseke is the DFL candidate for House District 47A. As the lone DFL candidate in the primary, Gieseke received all 474 votes cast in his race. He will face Nash in the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Nash, who is the current Mayor of Waconia, benefitted most from his home turf with Ward 1 and 2 voters in Waconia providing him with 483 votes to Frey’s 150. Frey’s strongest support came from the county’s townships, where he earned more votes than Nash in eight of the 11 townships, losing in only two (Laketown and Hollywood) and tying in one (Waconia).
Frey could not be reached for comment on election night.
