Albert Hilk, 78

Albert A. Hilk, age 78 of Redmond, Wash., and formerly of Waconia, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, Wash.
Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Waconia with visitation Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia and at the church one hour prior to the Mass with Father Bennet Tran as Celebrant of the Mass; interment St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery, Waconia.
Albert was born April 23, 1936 in Waconia Township, Minn., to Alfred and Emma (nee Luebke) Hilk. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia. He grew up on the family farm on the north side of Lake Waconia. He started working at Tonka Toys in Mound, Minn., after graduating from Waconia High School and worked there for 38 years.
He met his wife Rose Marie Clara Sterner at a wedding dance and they married at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, Minn., on Aug. 16, 1958. They were the parents of six children. They lived in the same house on Olive Street in Waconia for 33 years, which for a long time was known as the pink house.
After his wife died in 1995, he moved to Redmond, Wash., to be close to his daughters and grandchildren. Albert spent many years in Washington living with his grandchildren, being very involved in their lives. He also took pride in manicuring his daughters lawn and sharing his Tonka Toy collection with everyone. He traveled to visit his siblings, in-laws and extended family in several states throughout his retirement years.
Albert loved to learn, and passed on his love of knowledge to his family. He recently moved into an assisted living facility in Redmond, Wash., where he continued to make friends, learn new things and share his knowledge and his Tonka Toy collection.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie, three infant children; parents Alfred and Emma Hilk, father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Amelia Sterner; sister Diann Babb; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Edwin Sterner, Alfred and Shirley Sterner, Simon and Verdella Sterner, Hazel Sterner and Leonard Gutzke.
Albert is survived by daughters and son-in-law Sandra Hilk of Redmond, Wash., Teresa and Richard Pletcher, also of Redmond, and Rhonda Hilk of Bellevue, Wash.; grandchildren Jennifer Pletcher, Anthony Pletcher (significant other Kevi Louis-Johnson) and Justin Pletcher of Washington; sisters and brothers-in-law Verna Gutzke of Waconia, Minn., Alfrieda and Lloyd Koehnen of Lumberton, Texas, Jerry Babb of Mound, Minn., and brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Rosemarie Hilk of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Martin and Carol Sterner, Liz and Don Bakke, Tom Sterner, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Casket Bearers are Russ Hilk, Tim Babb, Tony Pletcher, Justin Pletcher, Paul Babb, Phillip Sterner.
