Senior Center

 

TUESDAYS – The Waconia Senior Center is open on Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m. in the Veterans of Foreign Wars building. Come and socialize.

 

Legion, VFW events

 

Waconia American Legion holds a sheephead tournament at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and a Texas hold ‘em tournament at 7 and 9 p.m. on Fridays. Waconia VFW holds meat raffle Fridays at 7 p.m., bingo at 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

 

Fall MOPS Groups

 

Are you a mother of young children (infant-kindergarten)? Trinity Lutheran Church, Waconia is holding registration for Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS)! Daytime group meets the first and third Tuesday of the month from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. and evening group meets the third Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Both groups begin meeting Sept. 16. Women of Waconia

 

Women of Waconia is a group of volunteer women who come together for community service and socializing among its members. Mayer Car, Cycle Show

Garden Help Desk

 

The Carver/Scott Extension Master Gardeners are staffing a garden help desk at the Waconia Library on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the summer. Bring questions and samples.

 

Thrift Shoppe open

 

The Trending Upward Thrift Shoppe will be open at Promise Church (141 Depot Drive in Waconia) every Thursday through Saturday in August from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Info: (952) 261-2343.

NAMI meeting

 

THURSDAY, AUG. 21 – The NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) support group will meet at 7 p.m. at Waconia Moravian Church (209 2nd St. E).

 

VFW Steak Fry

 

SATURDAY, AUG. 23 – The Waconia VFW will hold a steak fry at the clubhouse in Waconia, 125 First St. W., from 5 to 8 p.m. Steak or chicken, baked and cheesy potatoes, cole slaws, dessert.

 

Westwood Car Show

 

SATURDAY, AUG. 23 – The 9th annual Westwood Community Church Car Show will be held at the church (3121 Westwood Dr., Chanhassen) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Any make, model, year, condition welcome. Family fun, food, trophies. Info: Blair at (612) 366-2863.

SATURDAY, AUG. 23 – Freshwater Church in Waconia will host Minnesota Teen Challenge at the church and will hold a carnival for the community following the service. The evening starts at 5 p.m. The community is welcome to attend this event.

 

Relay fundraiser

 

SUNDAY, AUG. 24 – The Relay for Life team Bruce’s Lovefest will have a fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mack Shack in Waconia. All proceeds benefit Relay for Life. Team was formed to honor Bruce Remer, who lost a brutal battle to lung cancer.

 

Early Childhood screen.

 

AUG. 26 & 27 – District 110 staff offers Early Childhood Screening to check a child’s overall development and health. Recommended screening age: 3 1/2 to 4 years. Screening will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Aug. 26 and from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 27 at the Early Childhood Family Center, 520 Industrial Blvd. Info: 442-0613.

 

 

 

 

Cologne blood drive

St. Joe’s Catholic event

 

THURSDAY, SEPT. 4 – Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic faith? Maybe you have some questions you would like answered. Come to St. Joseph Church (41 1st St. E) in Waconia at 7 p.m. for a brief tour of the church and a discussion on some of the practices of the Catholic faith.

 

First Friday Service

 

FRIDAY, SEPT. 5 – The First Friday Recovery Service is held at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church (800 Waconia Parkway N) in Waconia. All welcome to attend this informal worship service designed for anyone looking for support or healing with an emphasis on recovery from addictions. Carver Trinity Bazaar

 

SEPT. 6-7 – Carver Trinity Lutheran Church will host its Annual Bazaar during Steamboat Days, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7. Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday: 11a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sale includes baked goods, garden products, canned goods, embroidered items, gently used books, crafts, antiques (collector plates), toys, misc. household items, plants, and DVDs/CDs. Serving sloppy joes, hot dogs, taco salads, beverage, homemade pie / ice cream, and chips. Takeouts available.

MONDAY, SEPT. 8 – The Waconia VFW Post 5462, Men’s Auxiliary, and Women’s Auxiliary will host their month meeting at 7:30 p.m.

 

Suicide support group

 

TUESDAY, SEPT. 9 – The Suicide Bereavement Support Group meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Waconia Moravian Church (209 E 2nd St.). Open to anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 12 – The Waconia High School class of 1984 reunion will be held at The Saloon in Waconia starting at 7 p.m.

 

All-Class Reunion

 

SATURDAY, SEPT. 13 – The District 110 Foundation and the District 110 Alumni Association will be hosting an All Class Reunion and Distinguished Alumni Celebration the evening of Nickle Dickle Day on Sept. 13. The event will take place at the Lake Waconia Event Center starting at 5:30 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres, refreshments and social networking. St. Joe’s breakfast

 

SATURDAY, SEPT. 13 – A pancake and sausage breakfast sponsored by Catholic United Financial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waconia from 7 to 10:30 a.m. All proceeds benefit religious education at St. Joseph Parish and School. Takeouts available. Pigs in a blanket served outside. CUF will provide a matching grant up to $1,000.

 

Hog Roast at Faith

 

SUNDAY, SEPT. 21 – Faith Lutheran Waconia invites the public to a Hog Roast lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  During the event, check out the new fellowship hall and fall programming.
