Hillard Arthur Kroells, 86, of Norwood Young America, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 21, at Good Samaritan Society in Waconia.
Hillard was born on Nov. 9, 1927, in Washington Lake Township, rural Hamburg. He was the son of John and Margaret (Eickschen) Kroells. Hillard was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith on April 6, 1941, both at St. Pauls Evangelical Reformed Church in rural Hamburg. He received his education at a country school.
On June 27, 1954, Hillard was united in marriage to Mary Ann Trocke at Church of Peace in Norwood Young America. Hillard and Mary Ann made their home on the family farm in Hamburg. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Ronald, Cynthia and David. Hillard and Mary Ann shared over 34 years of marriage until Mary Ann passed away on Oct. 19, 1988.
On April 28, 2001, Hillard was united in marriage to Alice Heinen by Rev. Dean Mahlum at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia. Hillard and Alice made their home in Norwood Young America. Hillards life was blessed with Alices children, Julie and Douglas. Hillard and Alice shared over 12 years of marriage until Alice passed away on Feb. 21, 2014.
Hillard was a hard working farmer and especially enjoyed the animals. After moving to Norwood Young America in 1990, he still enjoyed going out to the farm to either sneak in a tractor ride or offer a suggestion. He enjoyed his dogs, collecting toy tractors, German music and watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hillard especially cherished the time he spent with family and friends.
Hillard passed away on Thursday, Aug. 21, at Good Samaritan Society in Waconia, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 12 days.

Hillard is survived by his children, Ronald Kroells and his wife, Linda, of Hamburg, Cynthia Kroells of River Falls, Wisconsin, and David Kroells of Hamburg; step daughter, Julie Heinen of Lester Prairie; grandchildren, Jonathan Kroells and his wife, Rachel, Tisha Messner and her husband, Tyler, Tessa Gullings and her husband, Daniel, Kahlie Kroells, Stacy Huppert and her husband, Bart, Sarah Ellis and her husband, Tim, Chelsey Kroells, Nikki Kroells; great-grandchildren, Isaac Kroells, Jackson Messner, Joshua Huppert, Paige Huppert, Brett Ellis and Chloe Ellis; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Hillard is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Kroells; first wife, Mary Ann Kroells; second wife, Alice Kroells; step son, Douglas Heinen; brother, Wilmer Kroells and his wife, LuVern; and sister, Myrtle Bruesehoff and her husband, Lester.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., at St. Pauls Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg with interment following at the church cemetery.
Pastor Daniel Schnabel officiated the service with organist Sandy Kroells. Congregational Hymns were Love Divine, All Loves Excelling, On Eagles Wings, and Amazing Grace. Casket bearers were Jon Kroells, Tyler Messner, Dan Gullings, Tim Ellis, John Bruesehoff and Rodney Stein.
