Evelyn Schrupp, 91

Evelyn Schrupp, age 91, of Glencoe, and formerly of Norwood Young America, passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.

Evelyn Anna Adeline Wigand Klancke Schrupp was born on July 12, 1924, to Herman and Elsa (Bullert) Wigand in Henderson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On June 12, 1946, Evelyn married William E. Klancke in Mayer. They farmed north of Young America for six years. Their marriage was blessed with one son, Charles William Klancke who was born in 1949. Sadly, William died in 1952, leaving Evelyn a young widowed mother, at which time she and Charles moved to Glencoe to live in an apartment in her parent’s home. Evelyn found employment working as an assistant to the County Superintendent of Schools at the McLeod County Courthouse. In 1958, Evelyn went into full time elementary school teaching, teaching at the Plato school and later at Helen Baker in Glencoe. In 1965, she purchased her own home in Glencoe. She retired from teaching in 1984, after 35 years of service. Evelyn lived in Glencoe for 20 years and was an active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Evelyn’s only child, Charles, was a gifted athlete, who graduated from Glencoe High School in 1966. He attended college, but was drafted into the service of his country in 1968. On January 9, 1970, he was killed in battle in Vietnam. He left behind his young wife, Shirley, and their only daughter, Shelley Lynn Klancke.

On Nov. 19, 1972, Evelyn married Milton J. Schrupp in Glencoe. Evelyn and Milton enjoyed life on their farm southeast of Young America. They were active members of their community and of their church, St. John’s Lutheran. Evelyn and Milton celebrated 36 years of marriage together. In 2008, Milton passed away, at which time Evelyn made her home at The Harbor in Norwood and later at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.

Evelyn enjoyed many interests and hobbies in life, including visiting with family and friends; sewing, crafting and quilting; flower and vegetable gardening; cooking and baking; traveling in the United States and Europe with Milton; family genealogy; loving and serving her Lord in church; and caring for a big home and yard.

Evelyn was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #5102 in Glencoe and a Gold Star Mother. She served in church on the Alter Guild, sang in the church choir, attended bible class weekly, helped the Ladies Aid with quilting, and was a charter member of Prime Time. She also served on various education boards. Blessed be our memories of our beloved Evelyn Wigand Klancke Schrupp.
