Maple Syrup harvest is a great Minnesota tradition that you can be a part of on Saturday, March 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Baylor Regional Park.
Taste real maple syrup and learn about historic and modern methods of syruping. You’ll get a chance to taste the product at every step of the process.
Carver County Parks staff began collecting sap and producing maple syrup earlier than usual this year and will continue to do so as conditions allow. There are many variables that play into the spring “syrup run”, so collection dates vary. Spring is the time of year that syrup producers look forward to and this year the sap began to run in mid-February.
A variety of activities and learning opportunities will take place at this event.  Park staff and volunteers will show the maple syrup process, from tapping of the tree and collection of sap to the syrup finishing process.
Carver County Historical Society will provide activities highlighting the history of maple syrup season. In addition, Carver County Libraries will lead an active story-time filled with maple syrup tales beginning at 11 a.m. Find the story-time and tasty maple syrup ice cream treats inside the Baylor Regional Park Historic Barn.
When visiting the park for a maple syrup tour it is recommended that visitors dress properly for weather and site conditions. It is a one-mile hike on snowy/muddy trails to the tapping location.
The Maple Syrup Open House is free to all participants. In addition to the open house, interested non-profit groups and schools are invited to observe the processing of maple syrup on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. by appointment March 13 to 17.
If you are interested in volunteering for our maple syrup season, please contact our parks office.
