A late night pursuit in and around Norwood Young America ended with the alleged suspect managing to elude authorities, according to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy noticed an occupied vehicle idling outside a Norwood Young America business at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. The deputy ran a records check on the vehicle and learned that the driver’s license had been revoked.
The suspect vehicle left the business’ parking lot, and the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect fled through Norwood Young America before heading eastbound on Highway 5. The suspect then turned northbound on Rome Avenue in Waconia Township.
In Waconia Township, the suspect drove through a residential yard and crashed at the shoreline of Hydes Lake, according to the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the suspect vehicle partially submerged with the driver’s side window broken out. The suspect was not at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies set up a perimeter and searched for the subject using a K-9 unit, a boat and a state patrol helicopter, all to no avail.
Even though the suspect was not located, the suspect has been identified and is known to deputies, according to the sheriff’s office. The police reports have been submitted to the Carver County Attorney’s Office for consideration for formal charges.
