Relay for Life of Waconia is partnering with Hopper’s Bar and Grill in Waconia for an exciting kick off to the 2017 fundraising season. Celebrity bartenders will be behind the bar on Friday, April 7, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., pouring drinks with flash and flair to raise money for Relay for Life of Waconia.

Behind the bar to open the event, you will see Keith Sjodin of Melchert Hubert Sjodin Law Offices, Gerry Kirby from GK2 Promotions, and Marta Beckett of Marta Beckett Homes/Keller Williams Realty. Next up will be the Jeff Schulz Team from RE/MAX, including Ann Smothers, Ben Smothers, Robbie Smothers, and Laura Falk. Running the taps next will be Troy Williams and Paul Peterson of Sackett Waconia and Peter Hess and Chad Henke of Thrivent Financial. The last shift will be handled by Waconia ISD 110 representatives Pat Devine and Dana Geller, Mindy Wenger of the Waconia Hockey Association and Summer Jensen from The Stash.

Last year’s event raised over $3000. Relay for Life of Waconia, co-chaired by Alesha (Moonen) Schutz and Cadee (Burau) Winnie, is hoping to surpass that goal this year.

In addition to food and beverage sales on-site, a 50/50 raffle will be held (the raffle winner will receive half of the raffle proceeds). Don’t have time to stay for dinner? To-go orders help, too!

As we look to recognize more than 100 survivors at this summer’s 8th annual Relay for Life of Waconia event, it’s clear that our community has been heavily impacted by cancer. As a community, we look to support and stand by those who are currently fighting, those who have fought and won, and to honor those who have passed away.

To date, Relay for Life of Waconia has raised $780,000. With an ambitious goal of $100,000 in 2017, you can look forward to several opportunities to show your support in the next several months:
• April 23: Dancing With the Stars, Waconia High School Auditorium
• May 4: Unearthed Arts Painting Night
• May 25: Celebrity Bartending, Ground Round
• June 13: Drink One Down for the Town, Waconia Brewery
• Aug. 18: 8th Annual Relay for Life of Waconia, Waconia Fair Grounds

Watch for more details in the Waconia Patriot and on Facebook.

Next week the Patriot will feature a sneak peek into the first annual Dancing With the Stars event, where celebrity identities will be revealed, along with opportunities for you to see them learn their routines as they compete for the Mirror Ball trophy!
