Mayer Lutheran golf preview

Head coach: Gary Loontjer
Assistant coach: Jared Switch
Returning players with varsity experience: For girls – seniors Addie Luehrs, DeNae Henning, Mireille Ghassen, Ellie Martin and junior Lindsey Caulfield

For boys – seniors Dylan Fisher, Jeff Otterstatter, Tyler Wilaby and McHayl Diedrick.
Newcomers: For girls – Megan Thomas and Ellie Malone (Holy Trinity)

For boys – Nevin Waldron, Chad Heinlein, Riley Thomas, Jackson Fisher, Ethan McCarty, Alex Nelson, Liam Meyer (Lester Prairie) and John Mendiola (Holy Trinity).

Team strengths: “Our strengths will be with our experience and with some strong new players to the team,” Loontjer said. “Nevin Waldron, Ethan McCarty, Jackson Fisher, Riley Thomas and Chad Heinlein are new to the team but bring playing experience and could be fun to watch throughout the season. The girls did have a team last year and so we will look forward to the senior leadership and strong play from our leaders. Addie Luehrs led the team last year in scoring and is a good solid player.”

Area to improve: “We did not field a boys team last year and so a key point will be taking advantage of previous experience with the returning seniors and using the incoming new talent to put together a balanced team,” Loontjer said.
Meet to look forward to: “We look forward to our first conference matches (girls on April 25, boys on April 27) to see just what we have, compared to other members of the Minnesota River Conference,” Loontjer said.

Co-op: “We are again this year in a co-op with Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity,” Loontjer said. “To date they have provided some new players to add depth to the team.”
