Waconia High School students will be manning the phones and reaching out to the community on Sunday, April 30, and Monday, May 1, to seek support for the District 110 Foundation Student Scholarship program (previously known as Dollars for Scholars).
One of the purposes of the foundation is to raise money for its endowment fund and to annually disperse the earnings to graduating seniors to help pay for tuition at post-secondary education institutions or costs associated with military enlistment.
Should you be interested, there is the one-time gift of $2,000 or more, referred to as an endowment, which is a permanent or perpetual scholarship. Only the income earned from the endowment is given to a student in the form of a scholarship. The uniqueness of an endowed gift is that it allows a scholarship to be given each and every year to a qualifying WHS graduate.
Initially, the donor has the opportunity to attach a name to the endowment. The scholarship can be named after a person, family, business, organization or in recognition of a specific graduation class.
