Loving Son and BrotherMemorial services for David Thomas Niebuhr will be held on May 27, 2017, at 2 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 417 Oak Street, Carver MN.
David was born to Bill and Marian (Tasler) Niebuhr on March 8, 1962. He attended school at St. John’s Lutheran School in Young America and graduated from Mayer Lutheran High School in 1980. A life-long musician and performer, he followed in his father’s footsteps and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in music at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls.
He was active and excelled in a great many pursuits; loved the outdoors, nature, travel and had a keen interest in astronomy. After spending many years in Minneapolis he moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in order to, among other things, study the martial arts disciplines of Aikido and Wing Chun under a renowned Sensei who taught there. He achieved the rank of black belt, was an avid rock climber and canoeist and performed as a musician in a number of bands and ensembles.
David made many great friends in his community who appreciated his constant willingness to help in whatever way he could. With his unique combinations of persistence, agonizing attention to detail, challenging points of view, unique sense of humor and appreciation for movement, wellness and life, David was a one-of-a-kind person and his family misses him dearly.
He was married in 1993 to Ailin Chiu and, although they later divorced, she remained the love of his life until his passing. He passed away on April 2, 2017 at his home. He was 55.
David is survived by his mother Marian and brothers Kurt (Rebecca), Jon (Jennifer), Joel, twin-Daniel (Lisa), Mark and Tom Evans (LeeAnn), a loving host of nieces, nephews and cousins and his best-friend cat, Timba.
He was preceded in death by his father William and brother Eric.
Funeral arrangements were with the Bertas Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Chaska, MN.
