Kenneth F. Fabel

Kenneth F. Fabel, age 86 of Green Isle and formerly Cologne, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe.
Funeral service Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America; visitation Monday, June 26, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church; interment St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Norwood Young America.
Kenneth Floyd Fabel was born on December 9, 1930 in Benton Township, Carver County, MN, the son of Floyd and Ella (Wachholz) Fabel. He was baptized into the Christian Faith and later confirmed in the faith on April 1944. In 1948, Ken graduated from Central High School in Norwood Young America and then proceeded to live on his family farm where he was born and raised until 2015. During that time, he spent two years of active duty in the Marine Corps. On February 4, 1956, Ken was united in marriage to Delores Schneewind and was blessed with five children: Colleen, Nancy, Craig, Kent and Gary. Delores passed away in 1976. On September 20, 1980, he was united in marriage to Arlene Sellnow-Bachmann. Their families doubled in size, adding Keith, Lynn, Karla, Gail and Gwen to the family. Under their watch, they had 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Ken and Arlene hosted the family Christmas party at their house every Christmas Eve for the last 35 years. He cherished his family and loved being a part of his grandchildren’s lives. Ken also enjoyed fishing with Arlene and his family at their cabin in Brainerd, as well as playing cards and gardening, and he was a talented wood worker. Ken was employed at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital for 20 plus years.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Ella (Wachholz) Fabel; wife Delores Fabel; daughter Nancy A. Wolter; grandchildren Jennifer and Jeremy Wolter; sister Margaret Fabel; brothers-in-law Donald Grimm and Myron Sellnow; grandson-in-law Brad Schauer; father-in-law and mother-in-law Alfred and Estella Schneewind; mother-in-law Edna Gruetzmacher.
Ken is survived by his loving family: wife Arlene Fabel; children Colleen (Bruce) Pawelk, Craig (Lori) Fabel, Kent (Lisa) Fabel, and Gary (Lana) Fabel; step-children Keith (Elaine) Bachmann, Lynn (Kelly) Farmer, Karla (Ken) Anderson, Gail (Bruce) Schmidt, and Gwen (Larry) Achenreiner; 22 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Myron (Annabel) Fabel; sister Dorothy Grimm; sisters-in-law Janet (Art) Machenthun and Lovera Ohm; brother-in-law Orlin (Kathleen) Schneewind; nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
Casket bearers are Ken’s children and step-children.
